Ingall Family History
Ingall Name Meaning
from the early Middle English personal name Ingel Ingald Ingold an Anglo-Scandinavian form of Old Scandinavian Ingialdr Ingœld itself apparently borrowed from Continental Germanic or Old English Ingeld a name of West Germanic origin consisting of an intensive prefix *in- + *geld- ‘reward forfeit’. Some of the names cited below may alternatively belong with (2). from the Middle English personal name Ingulf representing either Old Scandinavian Ingólfr Ingulf or its Continental Germanic cognate Ingenwulf introduced to England by the Normans; the first element of this is derived from a Germanic heroic name and the second is ‘wolf’. As a surname it either died out or was absorbed by Ingall and its variants.
