Sibbald Family History
Sibbald Name Meaning
Scottish (Lanarkshire and Midlothian) and northern English: from the Middle English and Scots personal name Sybald Sibald (Old English Sǣbeald from sǣ ‘sea’ + beald ‘brave’ or more likely Sigebeald with sige ‘victory’ as the first element). The name was reinforced in the early Middle Ages by the Norman introduction of an ancient Germanic cognate in its French form Sibaud.
