Dall Family History

Dall Name Meaning

Danish: variant of Dahl . German: from a short form of an ancient Germanic personal name perhaps related to Anglo-Saxon deal ‘proud famous’. German (of Slavic origin): from a Germanized short form of an Old Slavic personal name based on the element dal which is from dalje ‘farther’ (see Dallmeyer ) or from dati ‘to give’. English and Scottish: variant of Dale . English: from a Middle English personal name Dal(l). One source of the personal name may be the Old English personal name D(e)alla or Dall but there is no certain evidence of its use in Middle English. Alternatively it may be a rhyming pet form of Middle English Ral(l) a side form of Raul (see Ralph ); see Rawle and compare Daw . There is no doubt that there was such a personal name in late Middle English.
