Egerton in Kent is from the Old English personal name Ecgheard + Old English tūn ‘estate farmstead’ (see Eckert ) but Egerton in Chesire is more likely to derive from the Old English personal name Ecghere (in which the second element is Old English here ‘army’) + Old English tūn.
