The Irish family of Fitzmaurice share a common Norman ancestry with the Fitzgerald family. They can be traced to Thomas Fitzmaurice whose brother Gerald was the ancestor of the Irish Fitzgerald dynasty. Their father was Maurice Fitzgerald a Norman baron (died 1176).
