French (mainly Nord; Logié) and Flemish: variant of Logier from the ancient Germanic personal name Hlodgari (Latinized as Lodegarius) composed of the elements hlōd ‘famous’ and gari (from garwa) ‘ready eager’ or gari ‘spear’.
