Americanized form of some similar (like-sounding) Jewish surname or translation into English of Jewish Seger or some other surname meaning ‘sawyer’ e.g. German Sager and Slovenian Žagar (see Zagar ). In some cases also an Americanized form of French Séguin (see Seguin ).
