Stove Family History
Stove Name Meaning
from one or more of various minor places in Orkney and Shetland called Stove including that in Sanday (Orkney) from which the 1648 early bearer took his name. The place-names derive from Old Scandinavian stofa ‘room dwelling’. perhaps from Middle English stoven ‘tree-trunk or -stump’ (Old Scandinavian stofn) understood as a plural in -n and made singular accordingly.
