English: from either of two Middle English personal names of Scandinavian origin Agemund (from Ǫgmundr Aghmund composed of the elements aʒa- of uncertain meaning + mund- ‘hand’ ‘bride-price’) and Amund (from either Amundr or Ámundi where in each case the first element is the prefix ana ‘against’). English: variant of either Almond or Hammond names that were much confused. Alternatively in some cases Almond and Hammon(d) may have been modified forms of Ammon from the name in (2). French: variant of Hamon .
