The Yorkshire place recorded in Domesday Book as Bolemere is named in Old English with bula ‘bull’ + mere ‘lake’ as is Boulmer; the Essex placename found in early records as Bulenemera is from bulena (genitive plural of bula) + mere ‘lake’.
