Alternatively a nickname or occupational name for someone who carried a seal such as a customs officer from Middle English coket Old French coquette ‘seal’. nickname for someone who liked eating bread made of fine flour or one who baked and sold it from Middle English coket so named (it is doubtfully supposed) because the bread was stamped with an authenticating seal.
