Dutch: topographic name from dol ‘swampy land’ + man ‘man’ or a nickname from the adjective dol ‘wild fierce rash foolish’ for such a man. Americanized form of German Dollmann (see Dollman ). Hungarian (Dolmán): variant of Dolmány a metonymic occupational name or nickname from dolmány ‘embroidered coat’ named after a Szekler village in Transylvania called Dolmán. In some cases this may be an Americanized form of Dolmáni a habitational name for someone from the village itself.
