Japanese: written 服部 ‘clothing guild’. It is the name of an ancient family listed in the Shinsen shōjiroku as Hatori; they were a silkworm growers’ guild and were therefore of Korean or Chinese origin. The name is mainly found in eastern Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands.
