Kapral Family History

Kapral Name Meaning

Polish; Slovak and Czech (mainly Kaprál); Rusyn (from Slovakia mostly Kapraľ and Kapráľ and Poland): from kapral Slovak kaprál ‘corporal’ (ultimately from Latin caput ‘head’) hence a status name for a corporal in the army. Possibly also an American shortened form of Greek Kapralos which may be a military status name meaning ‘corporal’ derived from Italian caporale (compare 1 above) but is more probably related to Albanian kapruall kaproll ‘roebuck’ or perhaps Aromanian capră ‘goat’.
