Croatian Serbian and Turkish rarely also Bosniak: nickname derived from Turkish kol ‘hand’ denoting someone who had lost a hand/arm (or has it paralysed). Compare Colak . Polish (Kołak): from a pet form of the personal name Mikołaj Polish form of Nicholas . The homonymous Sorbian cognate Kolak is apparently found in Germanized forms only (see Kollock ).
