Croatian: nickname from krupa ‘sleet’ the same Slavic word as in 1 above and 3 above. Sorbian: nickname or metonymic occupational name from Upper Sorbian krupa ‘(grain of) pearl barley’ also ‘hail’. This surname is found mainly in a Germanized form Kruppa .
