Swedish (Lindén): topographic ornamental or habitational name formed with the element lind ‘lime tree’ (also from placenames such as Lindesberg or Linde) + the adjectival suffix -én a derivative of Latin -enius ‘relating to’. In a topographic sense it could have been adopted on account of a prominent lime tree at the home farm. Compare Lindeen . English: variant of Lindon . Irish: shortened form of McLinden .
