Americanized or Italianized form of Croatian Polić: patronymic from the personal name Polo an equivalent of Pavao (see Paul ) used under Italian (Venetian) influence. Americanized form of Slovenian Polič: possibly also a metronymic from a short form of the personal name Apolonija Latin Apollonia.
