Czech and Slovak (Šišák): variant of Šiška (see Siska ) derived from e.g. Slovak šišatý ‘having elongated elliptical shape’. Croatian (Šišak): nickname from šišak ‘colt with mane cut’ or derived directly from šišati ‘to cut hair’ (see Sisko ). Slovak (also Sisák): unexplained. Possibly also an Americanized form of Polish Sisiak: nickname from dialect sisiak ‘little horse’.
