I just started this search this week (my first real attempt at any search). If anyone has any information on Joseph Randolph LaNeave please pass it on. He was my Mother's mother's father. The information I have so far came from the court house in Dinwiddie, Virginia. He was from Prince Edward Co., VA. He married Rosetta Frances Moore (shown as Rosa E. Moore on the marriage license) of Lunenburg Co., Virginia, on 07/04/1894. He was age 39(which would put his birth yr. at abt. 1855) and she was age 23( which would put her birth yr, at abt. 1871) when married "at the residence of the bride's father" in Dinwiddie. They are both shown on the marriage license as living in Dinwiddie at the time. His parents' names were Joseph R. Leneave (spelled with an "e" and the lower case "n" as shown on the marriage license) and Martha ?Holt? (the hanwriting is hard to read on old documents). Her parents' names were Columbus "Lum" Raleigh Moore ("Lum Moore" on the license)(the last living confederate soldiesr in Dinwiddie County when he died in 1937), and Hellen Amanda F. Tucker (Ellen Tucker on the license). I Have a copy of a Moore Family History tracing Rosetta Frances Moore's family, showing the "H" and the rest of her name. My "Aunt Dorothy" (Dollie Mae LaNeave [Dickerson}) was Born In 1895, died in (I think) 1992. My grandmother, Rosa Nell LaNeave (Newsome)(Yes, the huge Newsom(e) family, descended from William Newsom) was born 3/16/1900. My late mother told me that Rosetta died either during or, most likely, days after childbirth. She also said Joseph drank alot and was found a few years later dead in a ditch in Petersburg, Virginia, and probably buried by the city. I don't know exactly when he died, or where he was buried. I would like to find where he was buried and any info. on his family. After Rosetta's death Joseph took the daughters to live with friends in Darvilles. The 1900 US Census shows Rosa Nell LaNeave as an adopted child living with the Edward Hammons family in Darvills, VA. The 1910 Census Shows both girls living there. Edward Hammons' wife was Sallie A. They also had a niece, Mattie A. Skelton, living with them.
