In response to Patricia's inquiry of 4/9/00 I am a descendant of William Lamont of Hillsdale, NY. His dates were 1756-1852. He was son of Robert Lamont who had emigrated there from Coleraine in N.Ireland. William served in the N.Y. State Militia during the Revolutionary War and was reported present at the defeat of British General Burgoyne at the Battle of Saratoga; he rose to rank of corporal. In 1779 he married a widow, Phoebe Perkins. She died in 1789 and is buried in graveyard of the Methodist Church in North Hillsdale, along with other Lamonts. William and Phoebe had seven children. In 1801 William sold his farm in Hillsdale and moved to Fulton in Schoharie County. William bought a farm and married again to a lady called Rodman, and had three more children by her. He spent his last days with his son Albertus, in West Pomfret, Cattaraugus County, N.Y. where he died in 1752.
