Surnames: Laufersweiler, Wasem, Hilton, Kunkel
I have recently figured out more information regarding the Wasem and Laufersweiler family connection. My great grandmother was Mary Wasem who married Martin Kunkel. She was born in Oberingelheim, Hesse, Darmstadt, German and died in Long Beach, CA. She was married in Marshall Co. Iowa.

There are family legends and memories that link Mary Wasem to an Ella Wasem from Long Beach, CA and to the Hilton family through the Laufersweilers. I have been able to partly piece together these connections, but I haven't been completely successful. If there is anyone who can fill in gaps or who is from these Wasem/Laufersweiler/Hilton/Kunkel lineages, please contact me.

Again, Mary Wasem was born (1842 or 45) in Hesse, Gr. She married Martin Kunkel in Marshall Co. Iowa and died in Long Beach, CA. There is also a record of a Sophie Wasem who was Mary's sister and lived with Mary and Martin in Iowa in 1880.

I found an Adam E. Wasem who was born in Long Beach, CA (around 1838), was married in Ft. Dodge, Webster Co. Iowa and died in Long Beach, CA. All of his children, including a woman named Ella, were born in Ft. Dodge. Ella never married and died in Long Beach, CA. She is almost certainly the Ella Wasem in family memory.

Then I found a Caroline Wasem, married to Conrad Laufersweiler. I have no other information on Caroline other than this, but their daughter, Mary Genevive Laufersweiler, was born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa (same as the family of Adam E. Wasem) and died in Long Beach, CA (same as Adam and Ella Wasem as well as Mary Wasem Kunkel). Mary Genevive married August Hilton and was the mother of Conrad Hilton. It would be very helpful if anyone has information on Caroline Wasem Laufersweiler (her parents, siblings, where she was born...).

Finally, I find a George Frederich Wasem, b. 1836 in Oberingelheim, Hesse, and married in Webster Co. Iowa (like Adam). He died in Idaho.

Mary, George, Sophie, Caroline and Adam Wasem were all born between 1830 and 1850, roughly. Mary, George and Sophie are all recorded as being born in Hesse. Mary, Adam and Caroline are all recorded as dying in Long Beach, CA. Mary, Adam, Caroline and George are all recorded as being married in either Marshall or Webster Co. Iowa. Clearly these people were from the same Wasem family, possibly even siblings. But I have no record of the parents of Mary, Adam, Sophie or Caroline. I do know George's parents were Johann Ludwig Wasem and Elizabeth Kolb and I have the Wasem lineage from Johann Ludwig back to the 1600's. But I don't know how this lineage links to my great grandmother, Mary.

Does any of this ring a bell for someone?
