I have info off the net on a Franz Schumph and Sibila Schumph immigrating to New York between 1820-1850. Also a George Schumph being on a Census Index: New England, 1900. As well Christian Schumpf, b. 18 January 1753, Enkirch, Germany, d. April 1816. The spelling of the name is different, but the pronunciation appears the same. I live in Canada and am stumped as to who the first immigrants were and how they connect. Any ideas on any of this info.

Hi: Christian Schump came to Quebec from Enkirch, Germany. He married Marie-Monique Samson. One of their children was named George Burkard, baptized on February 17, 1796. His mother died young and George was raised in an orphanage in Ile de Madeleine, Quebec. Another sibling was Jean (John) who moved to Nova Scotia. This is where my lineage comes in. If you would like more information, email me at lridley53@hotmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon. My maiden name is Schumph.

Louise,

I beg to differ. George Burkhard and his sister Elizabeth never went to Magdalen Islands; both probably were raised in orphanages in Quebec City or else died young. After 20 plus years of indepth research on the inhabitants of the Magdalen Islands, only THREE of the Schumpfe children from Quebec City came to the Maritime area: Jean, who married in Cheticamp, NS; and Laurent and Etienne who married at the Magdalens. Two more daughters, Merance and Marie-Josephe married in Quebec City, and never ventured to the Maritime area. Dennis M. Boudreau

Correction for you: Christian-Adolf (or Adolph) Schumpfe died and was buried in Quebec City on 24/27 Dec 1817 (66yrs)! NOT in April of 1816 (per registers of Anglican Church). His line is s/o Jacob s/o Johan s/o Hans s/o Mathias all from Enkirch (Mosel), Germany.
His line was researched by his descendant Marcel Jomphe of Havre St-Pierre, QC.
