I am searching for relatives of my great grandfather John Wesley Coker of Arkansas. All of my Cokers that I know of so far are from Arkansas and Oklahoma. From what I understand we are part Cherokee and ?? Chickasaw Indian. I also understand that people did not take about their Native American heritage, but I want to know as much as I can!! The most that I can go back is 1882 and that is not very far back. Can someone help me with the Coker side of my family? Thank you. Is anyone related to a Dicey Coker? I have info from Familysearch on her.

My family lived in BlueJacket near Vanita.
The kids were orphaned around 1893. Some were placed in orphanage and the other went on their own.
Did any of this sound familiar

I am related to a Dicey Coker. I am at a dead end and need help desperately! My Dicey was born about 1834 probably in Arkansas and died before 1860 leaving 3 small children. She was married to John L. Goates in 1852 in Pope county, Arkansas. Is this the same as the Dicey you have? I don't know anything else about her, parents, or siblings.

Dear Renda, The best advice that I can tell you to do is go to familysearch.com and register in the Coker email loop, add your name to the list to receive e-mail and what you'll get is all the e-mails and messages from all of the people doing research on the Dicey Coker line.
The info that I have on Dicey is:
Dicey married John L.Goats in 1852.
She was 18 when they married, that makes her birth year 1834.
She had 3 children, the last one is 1858 and then she might have died because she doesn't show up on the 1860 census.
Her wedding cert, says she was from Pope Co. Arkansas.
This info is from Myrna is Washington state.
(from familysearch.com)
Her father might have been Leonard Coker in Pope County.
That's about all I can help you with, but if you post on the other web site, lots of people with Coker info(unfortunately not my info!) will write you back. It all goes through their computer, but the messages will get e-mail right to your house.

Hope this helps, Linda
