There is a Richard Godsil, school teacher, who appears in the 1861 England Census in Everton. He is 29, born Ireland c 1832, with wife Elizabeth 31 and three children:
John Godsil 4
Mary J Godsil 2
Joseph Godsil 1

Might this be the one you are looking for? I don't see a death for him, however, at least under that name. However, his three children are orphans as of 1871. They are in the Smyllum Park Male and Female Orphanage, in Lanarkshire, Scotland, in the 1871 census.

This looks like the christening of daughter Mary J:
Name: Maria Joanna Godsal
Birth Date: 17 Aug 1858
Baptism Date: 22 Aug 1858
Parish: St Anthony´s
Father's name: Ricard Godsal
Mother's name: Elizeb Godsal

There may have been another son, Richard or Francis Richard, born after the census was taken, who seems to have died in infancy as he is not with the other 3 in 1871:
Name: Ricardus Godsil
Birth Date: 5 Mar 1862
Baptism Date: 9 Mar 1862
Parish: Our Lady of Immaculate Conception (In Capella Immaculate Concepti)
Father's name: Ricardi Godsil
Mother's name: Elizabethae Greenwood

Name: Francis Richard Godscale
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1862
Registration district: Liverpool
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b
Page: 48

This seems to have been Richard and Elizabeth's marriage:

Yes, I believe this is him. His children were placed in an orphange. They came to America when they were young adults. Joseph is my great grandfather. Do you have any other information or suggestions?
