and find the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) revision that encompasses the time period of the death certificate. For instance, to choose the 1929 revision at random, 108 is the code for lobar pneumonia. (I do not know what the T after 108 stands for--perhaps another revision would tell more.) 11B is influenza without respiratory complications. 27 is tuberculosis of the other bones and joints. Again, perhaps a later revision would further break this down into 27B, as on the death certificate.
