I am missing Rollins and Sentell family members in Henderson. I came across this note on the Henderson County GenWeb site:
"DID YOU KNOW ?
The 1850 Henderson County Federal Census is missing around 1000 names. If you can’t find your ancestor on this census it may be because of a mistake. The census takers recorded the data and sent it to Raleigh. This is the “State Copy.” This copy was hand copied and the COPY sent to the federal government. That is the “Federal Copy.” The Federal Copy was not transcribed correctly and is missing somewhere around 1000 names. The State Copy is complete. If you have not found your ancestor on the Federal Census and you know they should be in Henderson County, this is probably the reason. Lois Dorsey transcribed the State Copy. If you would like lookups email firstname.lastname@example.org
I emailed Karen Summers a month ago and she never responded. I have just emailed the other person noted on the website but I don't have too much hope here. Looks like the page hasn't been updated in more than a year.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Does anyone know Lois Dorsey? 1850 was such a crucial year...my family has older children who were not named in 1840 and were out of the house by 1860. If this information does exist, it would be very important to researchers. If I can't find this transcription by Lois Dorsey, I would like to find the information and transcribe the missing names myself. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. Thank you!
