Douglas Chapman Coates was working as the night operator for the Santa Fe RR at Winfield KS on Monday April 2 1900. During what appeared as a bungled robbery., he was shot and killed. He had been married about a year and 16 days after he was killed, his wife gave birth to their son. The son was named Douglas C Coates and lived most of his life in Salina working for the AT&SF RR.
If there is someone in the Winfield area that could research this event for me I would appreciate it. I am in Australia so it is difficult to do in-depth research.
1 were there any follow up reports in a local paper?
2 were the culprits caught?
3 ls there a way to find the child's middle name? I have seen it as Chapman and as Clement.
I would be grateful if anyone could find this information for me.
