Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson, age 77, of Wharton, TXdied Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, in a local nursing home. He was born on May 8, 1929, in Houston, TX son of the late Howard James Johnson and Alma Rose Merkel Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was reared in Houston TX and was a 1947 graduate of Pasadena High School. He later attended The University of Houston. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army. He married June Kocurek on May 29, 1955, in Wallis. Mr. Johnson was a 38-year employee of Schlumberger having worked as an engineer until his retirement in 1984 and then as a consultant for two years. He was a 36-year resident of Wharton and a member of St. Paul American Lutheran Church. Mr. Johnson was a former member of A.I.M.E. He was a self-proclaimed inventor who enjoyed tinkering with his many inventions.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Wharton Funeral Home with The Reverend Laura Olson officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, June Johnson of Wharton; daughters, Margaret Johnson of Pierce and Karen Alford and husband, Jimmy, of Wharton; son, Howard Johnson and wife, Angela, of Beaumont; grandchildren, Ryan Alan Ragus, Hayley Brooke Ragus and Cameron Scott Johnson.

Pallbearers were Ernest Giesie, Paul Windham, W.S. “Scottie” House, Johnny Carroll, Donald Kimbell and Gerard Heffner.

Honorary pallbearers were John Derigo, Leroy Verrett, Ed C. Joyce, Bud Carter, Benny Schindler, Marvin Macek and Dale Chumchal.
