I am searching for any history on the following members of the Watt family:
Capt. James Watt, was born in Kincardine, Fife 7 Dec 1804 and married Helen Landers in Tulliallan, Perth 11 Apr 1878.
It has been mentioned that he was a Glasgow Harbour Master, I have not been able to verify this.
Three of his sons also are named as being ships captains they are:
Capt. William Watt who was at one time Master of the Steamer 'Cheviot'. He was born in Tulliallan 27 June 1827 no further details are known.
Capt John Landers Watt born North Leith, Midlothian 26 Feb 1836, married Margaret Whitelaw in Kelvitt, Glasgow 16 Mar 1875. He and his wife died in the wreck of the brigantine 'Akbar' at Timaru, New Zealand 29 June 1879.
Capt Ebenezer Watson Watt born North Leith, Midlothian Jun 1838, married Mary Ann Denny in Dumbarton, Dunbarton 23 Apr 1867. Capt. Ebenezer Watt is reported to have died at sea 11 Aug 1877 (noted on his fathers tombstone in Geelong cemetery, Geelong, Victoria, Australia) No other details noted.
I would be most grateful if anybody can help fill in the details of the family, including names of ships which were captained by the above (especially for Ebenezer), deaths of Helen Landers (Capt. James Watt remarried in 16 Nov 1845 to Isabella Jeans and emigrated to Australia in 1853) and possible re-marriage of Mary Ann Denny.
Thank you for any assistance.
Geoff
