National Doukhobor Heritage Village Reflects on a Busy 2008 Season, Upcoming Events for 2009
The Annual General Meeting of the National Doukhobor Heritage Village (NDHV) and the Re-organizational meeting was held January 25th and February 15th. There were 22 members in attendance at the first meeting and 12 Board members and 3 visitors present at the latter meeting.
The NDHV had a busy but successful year in 2008. It hosted school and senior tours as requested. Many loaves of bread came out of the peche (clay oven) however production could not keep up with demand. The Tolstoy building was completely rebuilt by museum summer workers. The large museum road signs were also painted and are ready to be erected and displayed as soon as weather and manpower permits.
The NDHV is looking forward to a busy year in 2009. The ceremonies, guests, officials and official reception regarding the unveiling of the Parks Canada Plaque (for the designation of the NDHV as a National Historic Site) will be a primary focus. The NDHV hopes that its chairman Keith Tarasoff will make a complete recovery from his recent health issues and will lead it through this important milestone in the life of the NDHV.
The NDHV Executive elected for 2009 are: Chairman – Keith Tarasoff; Vice-Chair – Fred V. Konkin; Secretary – Tannis Negrave; Treasurer – Philip Perepelkin; Past Chair – Alex A. Sherstabitoff; Member-At-Large – Walter Ostoforoff.
