Hi all, just wanted to alert you to a spam/hoax extortion email that may be linked to Ancestry data. I have notified Ancestry and advised that they check their security but I thought I should do my best to advise other subscribers.
I have received an email with my email address and my (Ancestry) password in the subject. The email appears to have been sent to me from my own email address and professes to know that the password in its subject is my email password (which it is NOT). It IS, however, the password I used for Ancestry - I have now changed it.
This email suggests that malware has been placed on my computer and that the 'sender' can see what I'm doing. For a number of reasons, I am confident this is not the case. The email then goes on to try to extort money from me,etc.etc. You know the drill.
