I am looking for information on the above ships lost at sea.
My GG-Grandfather was ATHERTON WALES ROGERS who was born in Castine, Maine 13 November 1793. He was lost at sea abt. December of 1845. From my research I have found that he was Capt. of the schooner, COMMODORE PERRY, built for Michael and John Howard with Jonathan Pressey, all of Deer Isle, Maine in 1816. He later sailed the Brigantine, SAMUEL & JOHN (I have a letter address to him dated 1823 as Capt. of the Samuel and John) and also the schooner MOUNT MORIAH. I still have not been able to prove what ship he was lost on but I believe it to be the MOUNT MORIAH since it was lost at sea in 1845. My Grandmother told me that they had a load of lime which became wet in a storm and this was what caused it to go down. I would love to have more details on this tragedy.
