The former two are named with the Old Norse personal name Beli + Old Norse ‘farmstead settlement’. Bilby is named with the Old Norse personal name Bili + Old Norse ‘farmstead settlement’. Occasionally this is a habitational name from Beelsby in Lincolnshire (recorded in the 13th century as Belebi and Beleby) which has the same etymology as Bielby and Belby above.
