A Sloss family household of at least 9 members residing in the district of Algoma was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Robert Sloss, was born in "Ireland" in 1862. He identified his heritage as Irish. By 1901, at the age of 38, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Robert's wife was Martha E Sloss, who was 36 years old. Martha was born in Ontario in 1864. She also identified her heritage as Irish. Robert and Martha had 7 children, 6 boys and a girl. In 1885 their eldest child, a boy named David, was born. Two years later, in 1887, when Robert was 25 years old and Martha was 23 years old their second son, who was named Henry, was born. Then, in 1891, with their two older sons ages 6 years and 4 years, their third child, Mary, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, John, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and fourth boy, Robert, was born in 1895. He was followed by 2 more children: their son Mathew, born in 1897; and their son Sydney, born in 1898. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this Sloss family household was filled with 7 children whose ages were 2, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, and 15 years.
