A Laughren family household of at least 12 members residing in the district of Argenteuil was recorded in 1901. The head of household, David Laughren, was born in Quebec in 1851. He identified his heritage as Irish. By 1901, at the age of 50, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". David's wife was Rachel Laughren, who was 40 years old. Rachel was born in Quebec in 1860. She also identified her heritage as Irish. David and Rachel had 10 children, 4 boys and 6 girls. In 1879 their eldest child, a boy named Thomas, was born. Two years later, in 1881, when David was 30 years old and Rachel was 21 years old their second son, who was named James, was born. Then, in 1883, with their two older sons ages 4 years and 2 years, their third child, Emley, was born. In 1901 another daughter, their fourth child and second girl, Ealinor, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and third girl, Margaret, was born in 1888. She was followed by 5 more children: their daughter Agness, born in 1890; their son Douglas, born in 1892; their daughter Sarah, born in 1894; their son William, born in 1897; and their daughter Grace, born in 1899. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this Laughren family household was filled with 10 children whose ages were 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 19, and 21 years.
