A McLeod family household of at least 11 members residing in the district of Argenteuil was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Alex McLeod, was born in Quebec in 1844. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 56, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Alex's wife was Mary McLeod, who was 48 years old. Mary was born in Quebec in 1853. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. Alex and Mary had 9 children, 5 boys and 4 girls. In 1878 their eldest child, a boy named John, was born. One year later, in 1879, when Alex was 35 years old and Mary was 26 years old their second son, who was named William, was born. Then, in 1881, with their two older sons ages 3 years and 2 years, their third son, Duncan, was born. Alex and Mary's first daughter was born in 1883 and was named Margaret. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and second girl, Annie, was born in 1885. She was followed by 4 more children: their daughter Nettie, born in 1886; their son Allan, born in 1888; their son Russel, born in 1890; and their daughter Jessie, born in 1892. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McLeod family household was filled with 9 children whose ages were 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, and 22 years.
