Identifying his heritage as English, Washington immigrated to Canada 33 years prior in 1868 when he was 30 years old. By 1901, at the age of 63, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Washington's wife was Delmer Murray, who was 52 years old. Delmer was born in Quebec in 1849. She identified her heritage as French. Washington and Delmer had 4 children, 3 boys and a girl. In 1877 their eldest child, a boy named William, was born. Eight years later, in 1885, when Washington was 47 years old and Delmer was 36 years old their second son, who was named Robert, was born. Then, in 1887, with their two older sons ages 10 years and 2 years, their third child, Sarah, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, Herbert, was born. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this Murray family household was filled with 4 children whose ages were 10, 13, 16, and 23 years.
