A McKeigan family household of at least 11 members residing in the district of Cape Breton was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Angus McKeigan, was born in Nova Scotia in 1860. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 41, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Miner". Angus's wife was Kate McKeigan, who was 35 years old. Kate was born in Nova Scotia in 1865. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. Angus and Kate had 9 children, 5 boys and 4 girls. In 1884 their eldest child, a girl named Mamie, was born. Two years later, in 1886, when Angus was 26 years old and Kate was 21 years old their second child, this time a son, who was named Daniel, was born. Then, in 1888, with their two children ages 4 years and 2 years, their third child, John, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, Joseph, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and second girl, Florence, was born in 1891. She was followed by 4 more children: their daughter Mabel, born in 1896; their daughter Eve, born in 1899; their son Gordon, born in 1901; and their son Howard, born in 1901. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McKeigan family household was filled with 9 children whose ages were (infant), (infant), 2, 4, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 years.
