A McLellan family household of at least 9 members residing in the district of Cape Breton was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Mick McLellan, was born in Nova Scotia in 1850. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 51, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Smith". Mick's wife was Maggie McLellan, who was 48 years old. Maggie was born in Nova Scotia in 1852. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. Mick and Maggie had 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls. In 1878 their eldest child, a boy named John, was born. Two years later, in 1880, when Mick was 30 years old and Maggie was 28 years old their second son, who was named Dan, was born. Then, in 1882, with their two older sons ages 4 years and 2 years, their third son, Robert, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child, Charles, was born. Mick and Maggie's first daughter was born in 1887 and was named Maggie. . She was followed by 2 more children: their son Willie, born in 1891; and their daughter Mary, born in 1894. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McLellan family household was filled with 7 children whose ages were 6, 10, 13, 16, 19, 20, and 22 years.
