A Bourgeois family household of at least 10 members residing in the district of Chambly and Vercheres was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Elie Bourgeois, was born in Quebec in 1849. He identified his heritage as French. By 1901, at the age of 51, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Elie's wife was Eliza Bourgeois, who was 46 years old. Eliza was born in Quebec in 1854. She also identified her heritage as French. Elie and Eliza had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. In 1879 their eldest child, a girl named Maria, was born. Two years later, in 1881, when Elie was 32 years old and Eliza was 27 years old their second daughter, who was named Marie Louise, was born. Then, in 1885, with their two older daughters ages 6 years and 4 years, their third daughter, Marie Rose, was born. Elie and Eliza's first son was born in 1887 and was named Alphonse.
