A McAuley family household of at least 7 members residing in the district of Cumberland was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Peter McAuley, was born in Nova Scotia in 1835. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 65, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Carpenter". Peter's wife was Flora McAuley, who was 64 years old. Flora was born in Nova Scotia in 1836. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. Peter and Flora had 5 children, 4 boys and a girl. In 1871 their eldest child, a boy named Joseph, was born. Two years later, in 1873, when Peter was 38 years old and Flora was 37 years old their second son, who was named Charlie, was born. Then, in 1877, with their two older sons ages 6 years and 4 years, their third child, Maggie, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, Peter, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and fourth boy, Angus, was born in 1884. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McAuley family household was filled with 5 children whose ages were 16, 21, 23, 27, and 29 years.
