Margaret was born in Nova Scotia in 1850. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. James and Margaret had 5 children, 4 boys and a girl. In 1882 their eldest child, a boy named Alexander, was born. That same year1882, when James was 33 years old and Margaret was 32 years old their second son, who was named Dan, was born. Then, in 1884, with their two older sons ages 2 years and 2 years, their third son, Ranald, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child, Blake, was born. James and Margaret's first daughter was born in 1888 and was named Annie. . Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this MacDonald family household was filled with 5 children whose ages were 12, 15, 17, 19, and 18 years.
