A McLellan family household of at least 10 members residing in the district of Inverness was recorded in 1901. The head of household, John McLellan, was born in Nova Scotia in 1850. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 50, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Laborer". John's wife was Mary McLellan, who was 41 years old. Mary was born in Nova Scotia in 1859. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. John and Mary had 8 children, 2 boys and 6 girls. In 1882 their eldest child, a girl named Clammie, was born. One year later, in 1883, when John was 33 years old and Mary was 24 years old their second daughter, who was named Maggie, was born. Then, in 1885, with their two older daughters ages 3 years and 2 years, their third daughter, Maggie, was born. John and Mary's first son was born in 1887 and was named Hugh. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and second boy, John, was born in 1889. He was followed by 3 more children: their daughter Mary, born in 1891; their daughter Mary, born in 1893; and their daughter Mary, born in 1896.
