A Bourgeois family household of at least 11 members residing in the district of Joliette was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Azarie Bourgeois, was born in Quebec in 1857. He identified his heritage as French. By 1901, at the age of 43, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Tinsmith". Azarie's wife was Parmélia Bourgeois, who was 40 years old. Parmélia was born in Quebec in 1860. She also identified her heritage as French. Azarie and Parmélia had 9 children, 4 boys and 5 girls. In 1881 their eldest child, a girl named Albina, was born. Two years later, in 1883, when Azarie was 26 years old and Parmélia was 23 years old their second daughter, who was named Laura, was born. Then, in 1885, with their two older daughters ages 4 years and 2 years, their third child, Omer, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and second boy, Israél, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and third boy, Joseph, was born in 1888.
