He identified his heritage as French. By 1901, at the age of 64, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Joseph's wife was Amelie Jubenville, who was 57 years old. Amelie was born in Quebec in 1843. She also identified her heritage as French. Joseph and Amelie had 8 children, all boys. In 1872 the eldest boy, Vincent, was born. Four years later, in 1876, when Joseph was 39 years old and Amelie was 33 years old their second son, who was named Charlie, was born.
