A Payette family household of at least 11 members residing in the district of Joliette was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Gean J B Payette, was born in Quebec in 1857. He identified his heritage as French. By 1901, at the age of 44, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Gean J B's wife was Marie Payette, who was 47 years old. Marie was born in Quebec in 1854. She also identified her heritage as French. Gean J B and Marie had 9 children, 7 boys and 2 girls. In 1881 their eldest child, a boy named Adèlard, was born. Three years later, in 1884, when Gean J B was 27 years old and Marie was 30 years old their second son, who was named Joseph, was born. Then, in 1885, with their two older sons ages 4 years and 1 year, their third child, Marie, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, Avila, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and fourth boy, Joseph, was born in 1887.
