He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 35, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". William's wife was Elizabeth McLellan, who was 35 years old. Elizabeth was born in Ontario in 1865. She identified her heritage as English. William and Elizabeth had 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. In 1886 their eldest child, a boy named Joseph, was born. Two years later, in 1888, when William was 23 years old and Elizabeth was 23 years old their second son, who was named Earnest, was born. Then, in 1890, with their two older sons ages 4 years and 2 years, their third child, Annie, was born. In 1901 another daughter, their fourth child and second girl, Bertha, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and third boy, William, was born in 1896. He was followed by 1 more child: their daughter Thressa, born in 1900. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McLellan family household was filled with 6 children whose ages were 1, 5, 7, 10, 13, and 14 years.
