Sample 1901 Vancouver census records about the James family available from
A James family household of at least 6 members residing in the district of Vancouver was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Aaron James, was born in "England" in 1846. Identifying his heritage as English, Aaron immigrated to Canada 7 years prior in 1894 when he was 48 years old. By 1901, at the age of 55, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Miner". Aaron's wife was Mary James, who was 52 years old. Mary was born in "England" in 1848. Also identifying her heritage as English, the same as her husband's, Mary immigrated to Canada in 1894 when she was 46 years old. Aaron and Mary had 4 children, a boy and 3 girls. In 1881 their eldest child, a girl named Annie, was born. Four years later, in 1885, when Aaron was 39 years old and Mary was 37 years old their second child, this time a son, who was named Aaron, was born. Then, in 1886, with their two children ages 5 years and 1 year, their third child, Maud, was born. In 1901 another daughter, their fourth child and third girl, Mae, was born. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this James family household was filled with 4 children whose ages were 9, 14, 16, and 19 years.
