A Jarvis family household of at least 10 members residing in the district of York (New Brunswick) was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Newton Jarvis, was born in New Brunswick in 1865. He identified his heritage as English. By 1901, at the age of 35, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Mason". Newton's wife was Rebecca Jarvis, who was 39 years old. Rebecca was born in New Brunswick in 1862. She identified her heritage as Irish. Newton and Rebecca had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. In 1881 their eldest child, a girl named Viola, was born. Six years later, in 1887, when Newton was 22 years old and Rebecca was 25 years old their second child, this time a son, who was named William, was born. Then, in 1889, with their two children ages 8 years and 2 years, their third child, Goodrich, was born. In 1901 another son, their fourth child and third boy, Robert, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and fourth boy, Theodore, was born in 1893. He was followed by 3 more children: their daughter Constance, born in 1895; their daughter Lucy, born in 1897; and their daughter Lillian, born in 1899. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this Jarvis family household was filled with 8 children whose ages were 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 14, and 19 years.
